Welcome to the first Donegal Gathering blog! We would like to take this opportunity to welcome one and all, in person or via your computer, to the official launch which is taking place this evening! I hope you enjoy...

The Donegal Gathering 2012 is a tourism initiative aimed at raising the profile of this wonderful part of Ireland by proudly showcasing the huge range of cultural festivals and events that are held annually throughout Donegal.

The initiative is a key output of the Donegal Diaspora Project which has been established to reach out and connect to our broad global Diaspora – defined as those people with a connection to, or an interest in Donegal.

The Gathering will showcase the best that Donegal has to offer, encouraging friends and family abroad to remember us. County Donegal has a jam-packed calendar of events in 2012 with something to please every visitor.

The launch of The Donegal Gathering will take place on Wednesday 8th February at 6pm in the Radisson Hotel, Letterkenny and will be streamed live on http://www.livetrad.com/. The website streams traditional Irish music concerts and sessions on a free-to-air basis worldwide.

The launch will be hosted by County Mayor, Noel Mc Bride and include a performance from world-renowned musician, Moya Brennan. In addition, as a token of extending the hand of friendship to our relatives and friends abroad, Mayor McBride will host a draw for Golden Homecoming tickets to be distributed Donegal Associations worldwide, which will include free accommodation and admission to Gathering events.
